To our Members, Friends, Fans and the Media,

The Swiss Tattoo Museum Basel Association rented a commercial property at Steinentorstrasse 26 in 4051 Basel. With a lot of effort and commitment as well as considerable investments, the space was ready in April. The Tattoo Museum should have opened in June 2021.

Instead, the local authorities have drawn attention to the fact that the previous tenants have made unauthorized, major construction to the property. In addition, various work promised by the property management has not yet been completed.

Unfortunately, under these circumstances it was not possible to open the museum as planned. A letter from the Association’s lawyer to the property management dated September 16, 2021 has not yet been answered.

An unsere Mitglieder, Freunde, Fans und Medien,

Der Verein Swiss Tattoo Museum Basel hat an der Steinentorstrasse 26 in 4051 Basel eine gewerbliche Liegenschaft gemietet. Mit sehr viel Einsatz und Engagement sowie mit erheblichen Investitionen wurden die Räume wieder instand gestellt. Im Juni 2021 hätte das Tattoo Museum eröffnet werden sollen.

Stattdessen ist man von den Behörden darauf aufmerksam gemacht worden, dass die Vormieter nicht bewilligte Einbauten vorgenommen haben. Zudem sind verschiedene von der Vermieterschaft zugesagte Arbeiten nicht erledigt worden. Eine Eröffnung des Museums war unter diesen Umständen leider nicht möglich. Ein Schreiben des Anwalts des Vereins an die Liegenschaftsverwaltung vom 16. September 2021 ist bis heute nicht beantwortet worden.

Interior designing of the Swiss Tattoo Museum in Basel is complete!

Our floor plans for the Swiss Tattoo Museum have been finalized and we are now ready for implementing our ideas. The Tattoo Museum visitors will experience a cultural center with a Café/Lounge, Giftshop, 18 display cases, 20 Monitors/TVs and 1 Event stage.

Multimedia Presentation

Placement of the Monitors & TVs were a challenge in itself as each screen will hold themed content, each relating to a different subject of tattooing. Due to our lack of presentation space, a majority of our collection will be displayed digitally alongside tattoo collections from around the world.

Museum Collection

Fixed installations, the 18 antique and modern glass display cases on the upper level will present a wide variety of tattooing related objects. The Swiss Tattoo Museum collection offers a unique timeline experience of rare artifacts, artwork, publications, ancient and modern day tattooing equipment.

Tattooed Walls

Our walls will be covered, tattooed in the sense of covering the walls with artwork. Tattoo Flash, Drawings, Paintings, Photography and other artistic mediums.

The lower level will be featuring Tattoo Artists living and working in Switzerland in our Café/Lounge. Every month the museum will recognize and present two professional tattoo artists with their art, tattooing and a short biography.

Our museum walls on the upper level will feature a varied collection of artwork dedicated to International Tattoo Artists both living and deceased.

Interactive & Informational

Being an interactive multimedia museum, each object inside the museum will be accompanied with interactive Qcodes that contain informational outbound links to the artists, collectors & contributing museums. Preserving, Presenting and Recognition are three important goals that Swiss Tattoo Museum in Basel wants to achieve and thrive upon. Visitors to the Tattoo Museum will experience a fun,  interesting, interactive, informational museum Intranet built on international museum standards and offering an in depth look into the art world of tattooing.

We still have a lot of work ahead of us and need more volunteers & funds to complete this ever growing project. You can help and support the museum with donating financially or with your time spent volunteering… Each and every type of support is greatly appreciated!

The building renovation plans have changed allowing us to stay longer in this location. Construction within the Museum is going forward. April we develop the museum exhibition display and also the Café/Lounge/Giftshop downstairs.

May will find us fine tuning the museum for a planned June 5th opening. End of May we will have a few preview parties for our sponsors and members, by invitation only.

Großartige Neuigkeiten!  Das Schweizer Tattoo Museum in Basel ist bis Ende 2023, vielleicht 2024, in der Steinentorstraße dauerhaft.

Die Pläne für die Gebäudesanierung haben sich geändert, sodass wir länger an diesem Ort bleiben können.  Der Bau innerhalb des Museums schreitet voran.  April entwickeln wir die Museumsausstellung und auch das Café / Lounge / Giftshop im Erdgeschoss.

Im Mai werden wir das Museum für eine geplante Eröffnung am 5. Juni optimieren.  Ende Mai werden wir nur auf Einladung einige Preview-Partys für unsere Sponsoren und Mitglieder veranstalten.

Bonne nouvelle!  Le Musée suisse du tatouage de Bâle est permanent sur la Steinentorstrasse jusqu’à fin 2023, peut-être 2024.

Les plans de rénovation du bâtiment ont changé nous permettant de rester plus longtemps à cet endroit.  La construction au sein du musée se poursuit.  En avril, nous développons l’exposition du musée ainsi que le café / salon / boutique de cadeaux en bas.

Mai nous trouvera affiner le musée pour une ouverture prévue le 5 juin.  Fin mai, nous organiserons quelques avant-premières pour nos sponsors et membres, sur invitation uniquement.
