Filip Leu
B A C K P I E C E S
Exhibition from February 28 to March 30, 2019
Opening on February 28, 2019 from 18:00
Next Door Gallery, Rue De L’Arquebuse 16, 1204 Geneva, Switzerland
For his first exhibition in the gallery, Filip Leu, a self-taught and polymorphous artist who no longer presents, reveals “BACKPIECES”, about thirty original sketches in real size (70x100cm) executed in charcoal especially for this exhibition.
Each piece is thought and realized in order to marry the curves and movements of the body by sublimating it.
All of these works have skulls in common, historically one of the first themes of traditional and ancestral tattooing. Fascination for this great mystery that is death or reminder to some of the importance of living the present moment, the skull remains a powerful symbol, because, as Alexander Pope wrote:
“Everything is uncertain in life, there is no certainty other than death.”
